The Department of International Urbanism is honored to contribute to the University´s School for Talents from 2024-2025 with the project Transdisciplinary Research in Urban Environments – TRUE Talents. The School for Talents is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments.
The project is designed to provide support for high-performing students enrolled in the master’s programs Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design (M.Sc. IUSD) and Architecture and Urban Planning (M.Sc. Arch).
The project will facilitate
- the acquisition of practical knowledge regarding the co-production of upgrading measures in informal settlements through expert lectures delivered by external experts from a range of disciplines. These expert lectures will provide the basis for
- conducting applied transdisciplinary research as part of a community workshop in an informal settlement in Cape Town, South Africa. The results of this research will be incorporated into an existing EU research project in the context of research-based learning. Moreover, the project will facilitate
- a peer-to-peer network to exchange experiences and reflect on the knowledge gained from the applied transdisciplinary research in informal settlements and the analysis of best practice projects. This knowledge exchange has the potential to contribute, on the long run, significantly to the implementation of the global sustainability goals (SDGs) at the local level.
