SDGs GoGlocal! Master Thesis Defence

Our first batch of the SDGs GoGlocal! Master Thesis Research Group has successfully submitted their Master theses. After six months of hard work, including two months of research stay in Namibia, the defense in Cairo took place on September 18th and in Stuttgart on October 11th. We congratulate and thank Alan Cayetan, Elsa Yepez, Tanzila Ahmed (USTUTT) and Salma Ashraf (ASU) for contributing to knowledge building in the context of urban Namibia and the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The four theses were jointly supervised by Prof. Dr. Astrid Ley, University of Stuttgart and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Salheen, Ain Shams University, Cairo. SDGs GoGlocal! partners and colleagues from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) Sophia van Greunen, Gaby Hansen, Jennilee Kohima, Ndeshipanda Iita and Gert van der Merve acted as advisors. Topics included the use of public space, economy, community resilience and gender sensitive planning in relation to informality and informal settlement upgrading in the context of Namibia. We thank the Namibia Housing Action Group (NHAG) and the Shack Dweller Federation of Namibia (SDFN) for supporting our students during their research process. The results of the Master theses are now being revised in preparation for a fact sheet recommendation and will be presented again to stakeholders in Windhoek. The SDGs GoGlocal! Master Thesis Research Group is part of the SDGs GoGlocal! project funded by the DAAD in the program line SDG partnerships.
