SDG 11: „Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable“
Astrid Ley holds the fourth lecture of the Virtual VHS Series on the UN Agenda 2030, „Stadt.Land.Welt. – Web“ / „City.Country.World. – Web“, on 4 November 2020, 18 hrs CET.
The City Phenomenon is one the most complex and ingenious inventions of mankind. But cities all over the world are suffering from massive urban growth, slum formation, air pollution and traffic collapse. The Sustainable Development Goal 11 of the UN Agenda 2030 addresses such problems by striving to provide access to adequate, safe and affordable housing for all, to ensure basic services and to rehabilitate slums. The lecture focuses on the implementation of SDG 11, the role of institutions and civil society, and approaches to solutions on a local and international scale. Two cases studies of dynamically growing cities will be examined more closely: Cairo and Cape Town.
