IUSD Lecture // Evaluating the performance of participatory planning A case study of urban regeneration in Taipei by Cinco Yu // TU Delft

Urban regeneration is a complex project incorporating governance and public interest realisation. The research focuses on the performance of participatory planning in urban regeneration regarding participants, modes of communication, participation authority, and space production. In particular, the question of what role participatory planning plays in pursuing various public interests is investigated. The research develops a novel method for evaluating the performance of participatory planning and offers reflections on urban regeneration strategies that apply to various scales and time horizons.

Cinco Yu is an architect, and a planner. His academic ambition is to combine research and practice to ensure that our living environments are prepared for sustainable living for the next generations. Before his PhD journey in Europe, he gained experience in the field of community architecture in Taipei. He worked with disadvantaged communities to develop affordable and sustainable collaborative housing. His previous work experience in the field combines his current research at the Department of Urbanism at the Delft University of Technology. He focuses on the connection between participatory processes, housing design, and spatial planning strategies.
