In September and October 2024, two partner organisations visited Stuttgart University within the framework of the DASH research exchange project. First, a team of four staff members of Gaiurb, the municipal housing company of Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal and one of our new project partners, came to Germany and visited all three German partner organisations: Inwole in Potsdam, Stuttgart University and Tübingen Municipality. In Stuttgart, activities included an exchange with Dr. Raquel Jaureguízar from IBA, a discussion on the German housing market report, a brainstorm on the training school/Portugal studio, a visit to the Rosenstein project space, and a presentation by Gaiurb about the work that they are doing.
Then, we welcomed two members of the Serbian Urban Planners Association. With them, the focus was on better understanding the urban planning system in Germany and how the planning of social housing is integrated in the system. Colleague Dan Teodorovici presented and discussed the planning system in Germany with Project Stuttgart 21 as an example. We also visited the IBA spaces, where we discussed the role of IBA in planning with Florian Rapp. Uni Stuttgart colleague Markus Vogl showed the team around in the Weissenhof Siedlung as well as the Killesberg area, allowing for a walking discussion about urban planning in practice. Last but not least, Thomas Kiwitt from Verband Region Stuttgart presented how regional planning is organised in the Stuttgart Metropolitan area.
