The WECHSEL team congratulates the Stuttgart Harbour on its 60th anniversary and looks forward to contributing to the Harbour Party on the weekend of 20 – 21 July 2018
„Do you river in Stuttgart“? What is our experience with the Neckar, our river? And what do we wish the Neckar to be like? These are tantalizing questions, because quite a few people have not embraced the Neckar as „their“ river yet. For obvious reasons, one may be tempted to say. Questions such as these are raised by the team of the interdisciplinary research project WECHSEL (2017 – 2019, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF). The University of Stuttgart and the City of Stuttgart are working together on making contributions to reinvent the Stuttgart Neckar valley. A subject of major interest is linking urban development to energy industry. The WECHSEL team would like to take the opportunity of the Harbour Party to share its work with the public. At the same time the public is kindly invited to comment the status quo of the Stuttgart Neckar valley, to express wishes for its future and to visualize them in a playfull way.
The Stuttgart Harbour was opened in 1958 by the German Federal President Theodor Heuss. As a national and international trimodal logistics hub (river, rail and road) the Stuttgart Harbour stretches on 100 hectares of land and water, providing a goods turnover of 3.5 million tonnes per year, and hosting some 50 companies with more than 3000 employees.
