Astrid Ley takes part in conference on “Sustainable Building” in Munich

Podiumsdiskussion und Fachkonferenz am 20./21.11.2024 in München

The Engagement Global Conference “Sustainable Building. Worldwide / Nachhaltiges Bauen. Weltweit” focuses on sustainability as a global task. Today it is imperative that decisions in construction are respecting planetary boundaries and ensuring fair distribution and intergenerational justice.

Especially in the countries of the Global South, ever larger quantities of sand and gravel are being mined intensively for the increasing number of construction projects, entailing far-reaching consequences for people. At the same time, an enormous demand for buildings and infrastructure needs to be met there.

Preceded by a panel discussion (20 November), eight conference forums will bring together experts to discuss more in depth selected goals of the 17 SDGs (21 November).

Forum 3 is about “Shaping urban transformation in the South and North”. Here, Astrid will be joined by our former colleague Marlene Franck, now Project Manager and Head of Impact Monitoring at Hans Sauer Foundation, to explore the role of civil society organizations by examples of good practice from Namibia and South Africa. The forum is meant to highlight that educational opportunities, employment prospects, participation and co-production processes are instrumental in creating liveable public spaces, and thus enhancing cities to become more crisis are climate resilient.
