“Slum Upgrading and Prevention in the Decade of Action” is the main topic of the 4th International Tripartite Conference organized by The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the European Commission, and UN-Habitat.
This conference is part of the global policy dialogue of PSUP / Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme with respect to 190 cities in 40 African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. Practitioners and financing partners will join global, national, city and community leaders in discussing the progress made in improving living conditions in informal settlements and slums all around the world. Debates will focus on (1) lessons learnt, recommendations, commitments and further steps needed to meet the scale and implement the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda, but (2) will also tackle the challenge of COVID 19 impacts.
Astrid Ley will moderate the „Working Session 1: Scaling experiences around the world“ focusing on „Taking stock from 20 years of slum upgrading“. The event will include (1) a keynote by Claudio Acioly (Team leader PSUPIII midterm evaluation) on „Evolution of approaches and contributions from the PSUP“, (2) motions proposed by experts from Brazil, Indonesia, Morocco, the Philippines, South Africa and Thailand, followed by (3) a panel.
This Working Session is supposed to make substantial proposals for the „Action Framework“ especially as to how learning and exchange between regions can help to identify key factors for successful sustainable upscaling of slums.
