CV Summary

Shaharin Elham Annisa is an academic researcher and tutor at the Department of International Urbanism at University of Stuttgart and the coordinator for the international master’s program – Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design (IUSD). She was born in Bangladesh but grew up in Oman, completing her bachelor’s degree at the German University of Technology (GUtech) in Oman, studying Urban Planning and Architectural Design (UPAD). She worked as an architect in private firms in Muscat.

She finished her master’s degree in University of Stuttgart in the program Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable design (IUSD) research on Understanding the spatial effects of migration and livelihood of Bangladeshi migrants in Oman. She is part of the EZBET project based in Cairo working on the development of informal settlements as a researcher.

She is one of the co-founders of MCTspaceLab, a platform aiming at enhancing and developing existing neighbourhood through vibrant public spaces. Currently, on the side, she is pursuing her PhD looking at trans-local migration in Sub-Saharan Africa, taking informal settlements in Lusaka (Zambia) as a case study.

Her core research focus lies on informality, migration, participatory planning, ethnographic research, and social and spatial appropriation of indoor and outdoor spaces among others. Her other interests lie within earthen-construction and passive house strategies.
