CV Summary

Christian Schmutz received the Master of Excellence in Architecture in 2001 from the Berlage Institute/ Rotterdam (DAAD Scholarship). In 1998 he graduated from the University of Stuttgart after having completed his architectural studies including a one-year-exchange program at the Graz University of Technology.

During and after his studies he worked in several renowned practices in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium among them Formalhaut/ Frankfurt, Volker Giencke/ Graz and Stéphane Beel/ Gent. Since 2003 he is a licensed architect and member of the Chamber of Architects Baden-Wurttemberg. In 2005 he founded together with Marisol Rivas Velázquez A-U-R-A – Architecture, Urbanism + Research Agency, a multidisciplinary office of architecture, urban design and research based in Ulm.

Parallel to his professional practice he was visiting professor at the ITESM Monterrey/ Mexico, assistant professor and lecturer at the Institute of Design.studio2 of Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck, where he has taught seminars and design courses at both bachelor and master level as well as tutoring graduating projects in sole responsibility. From 2012 until 2014 he has tutored students at the Institute for Construction and Design 1 of University of Stuttgart. Since 2015 he is research associate at the Institute of Urban Planning within the framework of the research project City-Space-Education (Stadt-Raum-Bildung) with the focus on participation in planning processes of school buildings.
