Anne Juel Andersen and Sven Buch will be presenting in the upcoming Städtebau Kolloquium taking place on 19 May 2026, 18h in the foyer of the K1 building.
Their presentation is titled ‘Transforming Aalborg: Urban renewal from harbourfront to Aalborg East’. Aalborg is undergoing major transformation in both its centre and periphery. Once a heavy industrial city with factories in the urban core and outdated housing, it has evolved over the past forty years into a modern knowledge city. Industry has closed or relocated, the university has grown in importance, harbour areas have been redeveloped, and former industrial sites converted into dense residential districts. Numerous new housing projects, including many student apartments built between 2010 and 2020, have reshaped the city. Revitalisation also takes place at the periphery: Aalborg East transformed from a social hotspot to an integrated district through architecture and social strategies, infrastructural links such as ‘Astrupstien’, active housing associations, and public-space investments that reduce segregation and enhance quality of life.
