The Lecture

The project “Participated Housing developments at Maia – Anta, Lagielas e Ardegães” is a process of resettlement of three communities currently living in precarious situations, mainly made up of Roma ethnic groups, covering around 180 people, divided into 50 households. This process focuses on three closely articulated dimensions: the production of technical architectural projects (corresponding to the new developments that will be designed and built), the engagement of families in the design of housing solutions (according to the preferences and specificities of each household) and their training/empowerment (through the integration of academic training and local learning, in order to deepen and certify skills, to expand job opportunities and family autonomy).

The Lecturer

Ana Silva Fernandes is an architect, research assistant at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), and an integrated member of the Centre for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (CEAU). She holds a post-graduation in heritage qualification, a PhD in Architecture focusing on policies for improving self-produced urban areas (FAUP, 2016), and training in public policy evaluation (IPPS – ISCTE, 2020) and public policy analysis (London School of Economics, 2023). She has developed applied research and consultancy work in the Portuguese context and in several developing countries, and is interested in urban policies, participatory processes, spatial justice, socio-spatial inclusion, territorial cohesion and heritage. She coordinates the participatory process of the project that will be presented in this session.
